Bronze coin

The Judiac Heritage Society commissioned Rina Rotholz to design a coin commemorating the Israel-Egypt Peace Treaty. The Israel-Egypt Peace treaty was signed in Washington D.C, U.S.A. on 26th of March 1979 following the 1978 Camp David Accords. It was signed by Egyptian President Anwar Sadat and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin, and witnessed by U.S. President Jimmy Carter.

Rina Rotholz’s design includes three major symbols of both the Israeli and the Egyptian Cultures. The Star of David, the Menorah, and the Lion of Judah, from the Jewish cultural symbols are interwoven with the Crescent, the Pyramid, and the Sphinx from the Egyptian cultural symbols. In the middle of this interwoven symbolic design is the handshake sealing this Peace agreement.

Silver coin

Rina Rotholz’s design of the coin commemorating the 31st year of the existence of the State of Israel: 1979, the same year in which the Israel-Egypt Peace Treaty was signed. Commissioned by the Judaic Heritage Society, Rina Rotholz used the theme of the Dove of Peace bringing the olive branch as stated in Genisis 8:11 “…and lo in her mouth an olive-leaf freshly plucked”.

Depicted in Rina’s design is the olive tree on dry land from which the branch was plucked, the receding angry seas from the great flood, and Noah’s Arc where overhead, the rainbow signalling the arrival of the sun. This is all interwoven in Rina’s design with the number 31, representing the anniversary of the State of Israel in that historic year of peace.
